At 256 feet (73m) Primrose Hill is one of London’s highest points. If you stand at the top of the park you can enjoy a stunning panorama of the capital, encompassing most of the city’s iconic landmarks: but there is much more to Primrose Hill than its famous views.  At its base, it’s a little enclave of arty, bohemian charm that’s home to some of the UK’s most acclaimed musicians, actors and poets.

This lovely urban village, which occupies the streets between Chalk Farm and Primrose Hill Park, was a hunting forest in Tudor times. The land was purchased by the crown in 1841 and shortly after was assigned for public use. Since that time local residents have worked hard to make sure it stays that way.

Visit the busy shops in Regent’s Park Road, Chalcot Road and Gloucester Avenue to find an eclectic mix of independent retailers selling everything from contemporary art to artisan cupcakes!  If you’re heading out of the area you’ll find connections into Central London via Chalk Farm tube or you can hop on a bus that will take you directly to the West End.

Getting around in Primrose Hill

The nearest tube stations are at Swiss Cottage and St John’s Wood (Jubilee line) and Chalk Farm (Northern Line). The area is served by buses C2, C11 and 274.  Main roads include the A5205 connecting routes to Park Lane and the West End and the A501 which leads to the city, while the A41 Finchley Road is a route to the north.
