With the season of indulgence upon us, it’s easy to loosen the belt a notch or two, forgo the gym for gin and generally relax. If you find yourself overdoing the mince pies or making a New Year’s resolution to shed the pounds, NW3 is a brilliant place to exercise.
Therefore Hampstead estate agents TK International bring you the first in a new ‘Top 5’ series of blogs – the top 5 places to keep fit in Hampstead.
Hampstead Heath – Parkrun, Nordic walking and bootcamps
If you live in a Hampstead property, a staggering 320 hectares of ancient parkland are on your doorstep. The Heath provides an eclectic mix of exercise opportunities, whether it’s a simple walk, a jog, a cycle or something involving a team, such as athletics, cricket or tennis. There are many scheduled activities taking place around the Heath, including a weekly 5k parkrun, a Nordic walking club and even bootcamps run by British Military Fitness.
Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre
There is something for everyone at this local leisure centre, with a 200+ station state-of-the-art gym, a wide range of fitness classes, a 25 metre, 8 lane swimming pool and even a climbing wall.
Open air swimming
If you are feeling brave, then you might want to experience the internationally famous open air swimming ponds on Hampstead Heath. The ladies’ and men’s ponds are the UK’s only lifeguarded open water swimming facilities open to the public all year round. Swimmers are even known to break the surface ice in order to get their aqua fix but it’s vital to follow the advertised guidelines.
Hampstead Rugby Club
This rugby club is based out of The Refectory pub next to Golders Green station, and the squad plays and trains on Hampstead Heath. They run five men’s teams and two ladies’ teams, making them the largest ‘playing’ club in Central London. The standard of player is extremely varied, so go along and try something different!
Matt Roberts gym
If you want to break into a sweat alongside the stars, head to the Matt Roberts gym and fitness club in Hampstead. It’s a hit with the great and the good, with a full range of personal training and physiotherapy services, alongside state-of-the-art fitness equipment and motivational classes.
Jeremy Karpel, Director of TK International comments, “Hampstead is an excellent location for being outside and exercising, despite its close proximity to Central London. Owners and tenants in Hampstead properties don’t have to travel very far to find a gym, open space or facility that is guaranteed to get the blood pumping - which is just what some of us need after an indulgent, sedentary festive season.”
